Sustainability goddess/environmental activist Summer Rayne Oakes actually walks her African Millipedes in her Brooklyn neighborhood. You know, like they're dogs. Maybe you wouldn't expect this from someone deeply entrenched in the fashion and beauty industries, but that's on you.

Summer's an author (Style, Naturally), a correspondent (Discovery Networks), a filmmaker (eXtinction) and a designer (of "environmentally-preferable" lines with Payless, Portico and Modo eyewear). She's also the co-founder of Source4Style, a marketplace that connects designers to sustainable material suppliers around the world.

Since we have a total thing for busy women kicking ass, we asked Summer how she gets on top.

I hail from…
Northeastern Pennsylvania

My digs are now…
A well-oxygenated bohemian, rainforest home in Brooklyn—equipped with a hammock, candlelight, and a closet garden.

What my LinkedIn says I do…
I like to design and work on creative solutions to some of our greatest environmental challenges. Then I tell inspiring stories that encourage people to pause—think, laugh a little, and even act.

What I say I do...
Basically the same as above.

Being a feminist means…
Celebrating all that is Woman in this world, acknowledging her right to live how she wants to live—now and into the future, and the true value that she brings to life.

When we say ‘condom’ you say…
“You better have ’em!”

What keeps me up at night…
Projects that excite me to no end.

I can't live without…
Plants! People I love! Good sleep! Morning tea! And a little “me” time.

My mantra is…
The world doesn’t say “No” unless you let it.

I #getontop by...
Being confident everyday, in every way, while working hard towards what you want.
