When it comes to public opinion on shower sex, it’s a wash. For some couples, it’s a hot and steamy way to switch up your sex routine. For others, it seems like more of a hassle than it’s worth. After all, hard, slippery surfaces and lots of wiggling around could make for one dire accident–especially when genitals are involved. Mix that with the coordination necessary to keep both parties wet and warm (one person always seems to be on the verge of drowning while the other is shivering and dry, right?), and it’s understandable why shower sex gets such a bad rap.
However, we are starting to warm up to the idea of some seduction in a steamy bathroom. Maybe it’s just the sticky summer heat getting to us, but nothing sounds more refreshing right now than some wet and wild (or relaxing and romantic ❤️ if that’s more your speed)–– shower action. After all, it’s as close as you can get to having vacation sex under a waterfall in Fiji without leaving your apartment. Below are some more reasons why we think the couple that bathes together, stays together.
It will help strengthen your relationship
Being affectionate is essential to healthy, long-term couplehood. What better way to cleanse your relationship of negative energy and lingering resentment then to literally clean each other? Getting sudsy with your partner is a great way to show physical affection, make them feel good, and as a major bonus, you get to massage your favorite parts of their body. Use a body wash with organic, nourishing ingredients like aloe, to give your skin some TLC as well.
It’s an easy way to reduce your environmental impact
Saving water: the sexy way. The average American family uses more than 300 gallons of water a day, 20% of which goes down the drain when you shower. Showering with your partner can cut your impact in half, all while getting to spend more time together naked. Win, win.
Period sex without the mess
Being on your period is no reason to forgo sex, especially since orgasms can help relieve pain from period cramps. However, depending on where you are in your cycle, period sex can get messy. Save your sheets from looking like a rorschach test and head to the shower to make post-sex clean-up a breeze.
Don’t forget the lube
It may seem counter-intuitive, but all that water and steam can actually wash away the vagina’s natural lubrication, meaning you might need some extra help getting wet where it matters most. Keep some water-based lube in the shower for when things get steamy and you need some extra slip n’ slide. It’s also worth mentioning that the shower won’t wash away your chance of getting pregnant or contracting an STD, so always use a condom.
